Chapter Fifteen

Albany – New York.

A week later.

Fritzwilliam was outside when he remembered what passed between Miss Bennet and Mordeci. He knew he was going to in town later for knowing the lay of the land, as it was, for his position as governor. He was thankful Maleficent and Haman didn’t bother once their marriage was finished. He never forgot how the pair looked at him too.

“The fact they told me I’m governor was one thing! Now I have to accept this and prepare for the role.” Fritzwilliam thought.

It was one of those fresh mornings where the sun was bright and the birds were chirping. Yet Fritzwilliam didn’t like knowing he was about to be governor sooner than he’d expected. And recalling how Maleficent and her husband told him wasn’t to his liking either. But Fritzwilliam wasn’t the one who was responsible for the elected man. The votes were calculated by the people. Whereas when they arrived the counsel count the number and then look at the man they wanted. And Fritzwilliam was the one for the job.

He wondered how Haman reacted when he heard the news. He knew one thing about the man: if he wasn’t elected or didn’t get what he wanted he would make sure everyone knew it. Yet when he informed Fritzwilliam he was going to be one of his advisers, it didn’t seem to Fritzwilliam Haman minded this at all.

“Seems to me Haman rather liked knowing he’s not governor.” Fritzwilliam thought.

He wasn’t the only one who pondered this. Charles appeared from another part of the grounds as he remarked. “First Haman and Maleficent are married. Then they announce you’re to be governor next week. And both of them are still on their honeymoon.”

Fritzwilliam met Charles expression as the butler appeared. He was carrying a bag of rocks and he would use them for a project he was working on. Fritzwilliam added he wished to have a few of the paths transformed. Here, Fritzwilliam paused when he realized he also needed another woman to aid him with the household duties. He realized he was going to be too occupied for the women’s responsbilies when he became governor.

Charles remark didn’t bother him. Instead, Fritzwilliam peered around at the grounds and nodded. He had an idea and he hoped this would be a good time to chat about it with Charles. As it was, Charles was one of his best confidants and Fritzwilliam was thankful for him. After Charles placed the bag to look at the rocks, Fritzwilliam looked at him as he inquired.

“Charles? I have idea and I believe it will be a great one.”

“Does it include anything with Miss Bennet? I have this idea you are going to ask her something.”

“As if you know me which I know you. Yes.” Fritzwilliam answered.

His butler looked at him and raised a brow as he replied. “Well I wasn’t surprised when you inquired. I noticed you have been looking at her in a different way from the other women. And
